Beach Elopement on Lake Superior, Michigan – Lupita and Eliot were planning a big, traditional wedding in Oaxaca, Mexico, where Lupita’s family is from.
Then, unfortunately the Covid pandemic hit and like many other couples, they had to rethink their plans and choose whether to reschedule their big wedding in Mexico or opt for something more intimate.
It was an emotional decision, especially after all the planning that had gone into their big day but after some thought, Lupita and Eliot decided it was more important to keep their original wedding date.
So they choose to elope instead with just their closest family members present!
Although they currently live in D.C, they chose to elope in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, near where Eliot’s family have vacationed since he was a child.
The Keweenaw Peninsula is an amazing location for an elopement- raw, rugged landscapes that are right next to Lake Superior’s pristine waters. Copper Harbor is a village at the tip of the peninsula, offering some of the most beautiful places and views in the northern US.
On the morning of their elopement, the sun was shining and the sky was blue so Lupita and Eliot took a short drive out to a place called Great Sand Bay – a beautiful sandy beach on the shores of Lake Superior.
Great Sand Bay holds special memories for them so they enjoyed taking some time before their wedding ceremony to walk along the beach and up one of the sand dunes to take in the view.
Now it was time for their wedding ceremony…
Lupita’s family flew in all the way from Mexico just for the occasion and with Eliot’s family there too, they all enjoyed the most beautiful, intimate ceremony on the shores of Lake Superior.
Everyone agreed that this chill wedding in nature was absolutely perfect- a true reflection of Eliot and Lupita’s personalities and values.
