The Grand Canyon is without a doubt one of the most famous locations in not just the state of Arizona but the whole of the U.S. It’s a 277 mile long masterpiece of carved red rock and offers incredible views…

But what you may find interesting to know is the red rock formations of Arizona don’t end there. There’s a whole lot more to see in this state and the Grand Canyon is just the beginning…

Approximately 100 miles south of the Grand Canyon is the desert town of Sedona and the aptly named Red Rock Scenic Byway, aka Highway 179. The town of Sedona is known for being surrounded by lots of red rock buttes (isolated rock formations with flat tops and steep sides).

These red rock buttes can be seen clearly from the Sedona town and appear to rise up next to you as you drive down the 14 mile long scenic highway.
