Best Places To Elope in Alberta, Canada

Best Places To Elope in Alberta – It’s hard to describe Alberta with just one word but phenomenal is a great start. If you are looking to take your Adventure Elopement to the next level then this is the place.

Alberta is home to the Canadian Rockies and this is one of the reasons why it has that WOW factor. With snowy mountain peaks, alpine lakes and stunning views spanning over a distance of 75,000 square miles… You’ll find it difficult to decide on one spot for your elopement.

Thankfully, your prayers have been answered! As we have done the work for you and narrowed the endless opportunities down to a few.

Peyto Lake, Banff National Park

First on our list is Peyto Lake. As you read this article you may notice quite a few of our top picks are in Banff National Park. This is for good reason. Banff National Park is full of the bluest lakes you’ll find anywhere.

Peyto Lake, like all glacier-fed lakes, gets its water source from melting snow. The snow on the neighbouring mountains melts in warmer weather and makes it way down to the lake. You’ll honestly not believe how blue the water is until you see it with your own eyes. It’s breath-taking!

Different from the other lakes we cover in this post, the view of Peyto Lake is from very high up. Seeing this stunning lake and the surrounding mountainous valley from above means you get to take it all in. You might even notice the lake’s iconic fox-like shape!

A great plus for eloping at Peyto Lake is the easy access to the viewpoint. The parking lot is just a short walk from the view overlooking the lake. This is extra handy if you are inviting some guests to your elopement ceremony.

On the other hand, if you are looking to explore you can go on a hike along the trails to get more amazing views of the lake below.

Moraine Lake, Banff National Park

Moraine Lake lies in the Valley of Ten Peaks, a short drive south of the Lake Louise village. Featuring beautifully turquoise blue water, Moraine Lake is one of the most popular settings for an elopement not only in Alberta but in the whole of Canada. The jagged peaks that line up in front of you beyond the lake and past the forested trees makes this location exceptional.

We recommend you pay a visit to Moraine Lake at some point during your trip regardless of where you choose to spend your elopement day. We guarantee you won’t regret it, it is simply a must see!

Sarrail Ridge, Kananaskis Country

For the experienced mountain hikers out there looking for a challenge on your elopement day, the hike to Sarrail Ridge offers the ultimate adventure.

Cross over a bridge within touching distance of a cascading waterfall making its way down the hillside. Then trek through a pine forested trail before reaching an emerald green lake. Doesn’t it sound romantic?

But that’s not all… From here you can stay by the lake, enjoying the view of Mount Sarrail soaring above you. Or you can continue on uphill to the mountain top.

As we said before, only if you are an experienced hiker should you continue past the lake and up to the ridge cliff edge. The rigorous climb is worth it when you reach the summit as you are rewarded with an unbelievable view!

You’ll honestly feel on top of the world as you stand, catching your breath, holding hands with your partner.

Lake Minnewanka, Banff National Park

This long and winding lake at the foot of Mt. Girouard and Mt. Inglismaldie offers a picturesque setting in all seasons. Just a few miles northeast from the town of Banff, Lake Minnewanka is an easily accessible location and a perfect spot for some reflection photography.

A short walk from the parking lot takes you to the rocky shoreline where you can say your vows with the lake and jagged mountain peaks rising behind you. The road leading up to the lake is open all year round so you can opt to elope here in the colder months if you dare.

Lake Minnewanka looks so pretty with a dusting of snow and if you don’t mind the cold, you could be one of the lucky ones to have a special winter wonderland experience.

Remember that the temperatures here go down way below freezing though, resulting in the lake freezing over in November and not thawing till late Spring. So keep this in mind when choosing your date to elope!

Canmore, Alberta

This charming resort town in the Canadian Rockies is the perfect base for exploring the nearby national parks. Canmore main street is full of restaurants, boutique gift shops and art galleries but with so much to do in the area you might not get round to visiting them!

The Canadian Rocky peaks can be seen all around this small town, all you have to do is look up. To get those much wanted unobstructed views, however, you may be surprised to know you don’t have to venture far. On the outskirts of Canmore, Policeman Creek offers a tranquil place with big views.

To get there, you can walk on the many trails along the Bow River stretching out from the town. Or park just off the highway if you are driving. This location might be what you’re after if you’re not looking to venture out into the wilderness on the day of your elopement.

It offers quick access to scenic mountain views. So no need to spend hours hiking to a spot if that’s not your thing. Here, you can witness the peaks of the Three Sisters right in front of you without any effort at all!

Lake Louise, Banff National Park

A very popular tourist attraction and probably the most well known lake in Alberta is Lake Louise. It is named after Queen Victoria’s daughter Princess Louise and is often referred to as the crown jewel of Banff National Park.

Like Moraine Lake, Lake Louise features beautiful turquoise blue waters and as we’ve said before… The blue lakes really have to be seen in person to be believed. You may find both lakes look very similar in photos, but you won’t be the only one.

In fact, when you search for images of Lake Louise on Google, many pictures of Moraine Lake actually appear! This is because the lakes are so close together. They are literally a 20 minute drive away from each other and the closest village to Moraine Lake is the Lake Louise resort. Confused much!

There are a few distinguishing features though that tell you which one is which. One of them being that Moraine Lake looks out to the Valley of Ten Peaks and these guys (mountains we mean!) are pretty hard to miss.

Their jagged peaks line up in front of one another making quite an impression. In any pictures you see of Moraine Lake, the Ten Peaks will take centre stage above the lake.

Another notable feature is the Fairmont Chateau. A luxury 5 Star hotel that sits right on the shoreline of Lake Louise. This large resort with over 500 rooms is hard to miss so if you are looking for somewhere tranquil, you’ll probably want to steer clear of this one!

Pyramid Lake, Jasper National Park

Now we move on to another national park which might not be as well known as the others but certainly packs a punch!

A few miles northwest of Jasper town in Jasper National Park, Pyramid Lake can be found offering a somewhat different outlook. As with many of our top picks, this spot is easily accessed by car but the difference with this lake is the island!

You may be thinking this island can only be accessed by boat but you would be wrong because, in fact, the island is connected to the mainland by a wooden footbridge. This means you can enjoy panoramic views of the lake from many different lookout points. It’s a great plus for your photography too.
